I am glad that there are people like this in the world. Looking after the creatures that other people think are pests, or ugly, or boring.
This chap confesses to going rogue and because it had a beneficial effect we don’t put him in prison. Even by the standards of British democracy, this is a low. We knew that the security services act as if they, not the elected representatives of the people, run this country and make decisions based on what they think is best, rather than letting government policy rule1. But to have individuals acting this way is absolute lunacy. The arrogance of this man! How dare he! Just because it was the right call doesn’t mean that you and I should be at the mercy of self-appointed history makers. If they make the wrong call thousands can die. At least if politicians do it, they are in theory accountable. These bloody handed narcissists get free reign over our lives. Come the revolution all this will be opened to the light, every file and secret. They know that of course, and it will all be destroyed long before we get a chance to open it up, just as it was in the colonies. They know how history works.
Plato further taught [Dionysius I] the converse: a man enslaved to another could preserve happiness if he possessed a just and well-ordered soul. … Dionysius I sold the philosopher into slavery.

That the British government and British democracy is fundamentally flawed, corrupt, and racist doesn’t mean that representatives of the state can go rogue. Unless they are doing so to reveal the corruption. If you’re a supporter of our democracy, you can’t act undemocratically without accepting that it doesn’t work. In this case he wants you lot to abide by the rules and conventions of British democracy, but not himself and his friends.
